Celebrated Voice Actor SIMON VANCE Earns Record 50th AUDIE AWARD Nod
and Sets Sights On-Camera
LOS ANGELES (March 14, 2023) – Critically acclaimed British audiobook narrator Simon Vance surpasses his own record, earning a 50th Audie Award® nomination as part of the 2023 awards taking place on March 28th in New York City. The timing also coincides with Vance steering his career back to the screen, signing with veteran manager Darlene Kaplan at Darlene Kaplan Entertainment for on-camera representation.
Vance earned two nominations this year, including one for his narration of Victor Hugo’s literary classic THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME. Handed out by the Audio Publishers Association, the Audie Awards is the premier awards program in the United States recognizing distinction in audiobooks and spoken-word entertainment. In other words, it’s the audio equivalent to the Oscars.
Utilizing his quintessentially English voice, Vance has won 16 Audie Awards, with 12 as solo narrator, and was even selected to host the awards ceremony in 2018. His accolades extend to include joining the inaugural group of Audible Narrator Hall of Fame inductees in 2017, 7 SOVAS Awards, the 2021 Independent Audiobook Award for Best Male Narrator, 75 AudioFile Earphone Awards, being named an AudioFile Magazine ‘Golden Voice’, and becoming the inaugural Booklist Magazine ‘Voice of Choice’ in 2008.
With a narration library of well over 1,000 books, Vance has lent his voice to create some of the best- selling and most critically acclaimed performances ever recorded. Notable titles include George RR Martin’s FIRE & BLOOD (the source material for HBO’s House of the Dragon), Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series best-seller THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, many of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles novels including INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, as well as Frank Herbert’s DUNE series. Vance is also celebrated for his recordings of the works of Charles Dickens, Arthur Conan Doyle, Patrick O’Brian, Alan Moore, and many others.
Currently, Vance is voicing the recurring character of Lucien the Librarian in Neil Gaiman’s THE SANDMAN (ACTS I, II & III), and he recently joined with Neil Patrick Harris to narrate Rupert Holmes’ devilish thriller MURDER YOUR EMPLOYER.
Before turning his attention exclusively to audiobooks Vance previously landed roles on notable television shows, including Nash Bridges, Criminal Minds, Masters of Sex, and The Evidence. Now, signing with Darlene Kaplan allows him to bring his award-winning performance skills to a whole world of on-camera opportunities.
Vance is excited to head back into the on-camera arena, sharing “I can tell a good story sitting on my own in a black box – my recording studio – but there’s nothing like being part of a creative family. It’s not just about working with other actors but sharing the creative process with a talented director and crew for a fully immersive experience.”
Simon Vance is represented by Darlene Kaplan Entertainment (Manager) and Dean Panaro Talent (Voice Agent).
